General FAQs

Can I Submit Cover Songs?

Cover songs and sync licensing

Cover songs present unique challenges when it comes to sync licensing. Here's what you need to know.

The short answer

In most cases, cover songs are not eligible for sync placement through Audiovybez. Sync licensing requires clearance from both the master recording owner and the publisher of the underlying composition. With covers, the composition is owned by the original songwriter or their publisher, adding significant complexity and cost to the licensing process.

Why covers are difficult to sync

Music supervisors generally prefer original compositions because they can clear all rights through a single source. With a cover, they need separate approval from the composition's publisher, which adds time, cost, and uncertainty to the process.

Exceptions

In rare cases, a cover may be considered if you have obtained a sync license from the original composition's rights holders in advance. If you believe your cover has all necessary clearances, contact our team to discuss your specific situation.

Our recommendation

Focus on submitting original compositions. Original music gives you full control over all rights, making the licensing process faster and more straightforward for everyone involved.
