General FAQs
Do I Need to Register with a Performing Rights Organization?
PRO registration
While it's not strictly required to use Audiovybez, registering with a Performing Rights Organization (PRO) is strongly recommended for anyone serious about sync licensing.
What is a PRO?
A PRO collects performance royalties on behalf of songwriters and publishers when their music is publicly performed, broadcast on TV or radio, streamed, or used in other public settings. Major PROs include ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC in the United States, PRS in the UK, and SOCAN in Canada.
Why it matters for sync
When your music is placed in a TV show, film, or advertisement, it generates performance royalties every time it airs. Without a PRO affiliation, you won't collect these royalties. This can represent a significant and ongoing income stream from a single placement.
How to register
Visit the website of your preferred PRO and follow their registration process. It's typically free or low-cost for songwriters. Once registered, you'll receive a CAE/IPI number that you should add to your Audiovybez profile.
Which PRO should I choose?
Each PRO has different strengths and fee structures. Research the options available in your country and choose the one that best fits your needs. You can only be affiliated with one PRO at a time as a writer.
